 This will be a thorough workshop, with Tony doing a full sheet demonstration painting each morning, plenty of time for you to paint in the afternoon, and a critique at the end of the day of all the work done that day, each day.  He’ll unravel much of the “mystery” surrounding design while he shows you how to make your paintings fresh and crisp – and he’ll make color much simpler for you, too.  Many students have said they have learned more in one day at one of these workshops than in four years of art school!

Tony Couch received a BA degree in Art from the University of Tampa, did further work at Pratt Institute in New York while an artist for Associated Press, then for years freelanced and studied with Edgar A Whitney, ANA.
 
       His book, "WATERCOLOR: You Can Do It!", published by North Light in 1987 is now in its sixth printing, has become the publisher's all time best selling art book and is the textbook in several college art departments. It has also been published in Chinese for that market. A "technique" book, published in 1991 has been published in English and Japanese. A third book, on design, was published in 1992.  His watercolor instruction articles have appeared in several publications worldwide, including Palette Talk, North Light, American Artist, Australian Artist, The Artist, and Watercolor Magic. Tony has produced 10 "how to" videos on drawing, design and watercolor painting - of which several are used in state educational systems in the US. A winner of over 70 exhibition awards, his work has been included in 3 annual exhibitions of the National Academy of Design and 11 art instruction publications by other authors in the US and UK.

The Workshop is geared to the beginner, intermediate painter and professional alike...you'll work hard but Tony will show you how to have fun doing it. The eight Principles of Design will be cut down to size and each day you will see how they are applied. to painting. You will learn something valuable and practice it on the spot, coming away with increased understanding and several paintings of your own of which you will be proud.
     Classes generally start at 9:00 each morning. After a brief talk on the day's objectives, Tony will do a complete painting, telling you what he's doing as he does it, and why. The "mysteries" of design will be unraveled for you while you learn watercolor!
    At noon we break for lunch, then YOU paint in the afternoon, while what you have seen and learned is fresh in your mind. It's the fastest way to learn.  One afternoon Tony will give a slide/lecture on the principles of design. He'll also cover the major value patterns and effective uses of color. You may either attend, or use this time to paint.
     At about 3:30 Tony critiques all the work produced during the day, including his own. It's a time at which much is learned by all. By 5:00 we're finished. Of course you may come and go as you wish at any time, and Tony will critique your work early if you've finished and have to leave earlier.
     Anyone 18 yrs. or older is eligible to attend; groups are made up of beginners, hobbyists, students and professionals. The class is necessarily limited in size on a "first come" basis, and your check is your reservation.

Tuition is $565.00.  A $250 deposit will hold a spot for you in the workshop, or you may send in the whole amount, if you prefer.  The remainder is due October  5, 2011.  Please make checks payable to Dodie Davis..  No video cameras at the workshop, please.  Still cameras OK CANCELLATIONS: Tuition is fully refundable minus a $25 service fee any time up to November 5, 2011.  After that date there will be no refunds unless we can sell your spot to another student.  If the workshop should cancel:  Full tuition refund, but we are not responsible for non-refundable transportation, hotel, or rental car costs.
